About HENSLEE
HENSLEE is a fractional HR consultancy that helps small and early-stage employers build thoughtful, effective People Operations. We partner with founders, leaders, and teams to create smart, people first, durable systems across the employee lifecycle. Our clients range from mission-driven nonprofits to growing companies and we believe great People Ops should be both strategic and deeply human.
About the Role
HENSLEE’s purpose is to Make Space and Elevate. We empower ourselves and others to shine by creating conditions where employees can show up authentically, lead from their strengths, and navigate work and life in their own way. The HR Manager role sits at the center of that purpose for one of our longest tenured clients, a small mission-driven organization.
You are the glue between strategy (People Leader) and delivery (you & the People Partners) in a small organization. You lead the People Ops work from day-to-day: you're the main POC for the team, actively distributing and collaborating on project work and driving the People team's output. You're hands-on and stay in the day-to-day weeds right alongside the client & HENSLEE teams. You partner closely with the Senior People Leader who leads strategy, executing against that strategy to move initiatives forward.
What You'll Own
Hands-on HR delivery: You own and drive your projects, employee relations issues, policy questions, and sensitive conversations. You're in the work with the team every day.
Client-facing presence: You’re the day-to-day point of contact with client teams, building trust that makes people come to you early. You're not afraid to ask questions and pick up the phone.
Coaching and Guidance: You’ll directly support the team. Serve as the first point of escalation, answer their questions, guide them on a range of employment matters, and be the experienced reviewer when something needs a second set of eyes.
Project Organization: You’re thinking two steps ahead of what's coming, staying organized and enabling the team to do their best work. Proactively work with Senior People Leader to translate strategic direction into concrete delivery.
Documentation: Keep thorough, clear documentation across the employee life cycle detailing situations, decisions and rationale in a clear and concise way.
Escalation & judgment: You know when a situation calls for the People Leader's experience or perspective, and you bring them in clearly and directly rather than guessing or going it alone.
Strategic input: Partner closely with the strategy owner (People Leader) to surface trends, risks, morale signals, and capacity gaps.
The Approach
Successful execution of this role looks like:
Do What You Say You'll Do: You own your work, follow through, document thoroughly, and when something shifts, flag it early.
Lead With Heart: Our clients will include a wide range of personalities and working styles, and youtube time to get to know folx where they are and become a steady and trusted resource.
Keep It Wavy: Our clients can move quickly and can shift priorities. You stay adaptable, help navigate change and ask for help. Teamwork!
